About MuslimPrayTime.uk

Daily prayer times for UK cities — how they are worked out and who is behind the site.

Who we are

MuslimPrayTime.uk is an independent project. It is not affiliated with any mosque, organisation or government body. Our aim is simple: give Muslims in the UK a fast, clear page with today's prayer times and a printable monthly timetable for their city.

How the times are calculated

Prayer times are calculated on our server from each city's coordinates using standard solar position formulas. Times are shown in UK local time and switch automatically between GMT and British Summer Time.

  • Fajr — when the sun is a set angle below the horizon before sunrise (18° by default).
  • Sunrise — the end of Fajr time.
  • Dhuhr — just after the sun passes its highest point.
  • Asr — when an object's shadow equals twice its length plus its noon shadow (Hanafi), or once (Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali).
  • Maghrib — sunset.
  • Isha — when the sun is a set angle below the horizon after sunset (17° by default).

Calculation methods

The default is the Muslim World League method with Hanafi Asr. On every city page you can switch to another method; your choice is saved on your device.

  • Muslim World League — Fajr 18°, Isha 17°
  • Moonsighting Committee Worldwide — Seasonal Fajr & Isha
  • University of Islamic Sciences, Karachi — Fajr 18°, Isha 18°
  • Islamic Society of North America — Fajr 15°, Isha 15°

In UK summers the sun does not go far enough below the horizon for Fajr and Isha angles to be reached. For angle-based methods we then use the widely used angle-based rule (a portion of the night proportional to the angle). The Moonsighting Committee method uses its own seasonal minutes instead.

Your mosque's times may differ

Mosques publish their own timetables and Jamaat (congregation) times, which can differ from calculated start times by several minutes — especially for Fajr and Isha. If your mosque gives different times, follow your mosque.
